Headed Home to Affordable Housing

Evelyn Perdomo accepted a position as Project Assistant with Mercy Housing. Mercy Housing is one of the nation’s largest non profit affordable housing organizations. They participate in the development, preservation, management and/or financing of affordable, program-enriched housing across the country. Evelyn will be working with affordable housing developments in San Francisco and other cities in the Bay Area. Some of her initial responsibilities will be to review sites for potential development, conduct feasibility analyses, work with funding applications, and see projects through by getting all the necessary approvals and working with architects and contractors. Before leaving, Evelyn said “I’m really excited about this new opportunity because I think it will be fun, challenging, and rewarding to work on affordable housing developments.”

Evelyn PerdomoEvelyn graduated from the University of Oregon on June 14 with a Master’s degree in Community and Regional Planning. Evelyn definitely feels that her experiences with PPPMCPW, and the Community Service Center helped prepare her to get to this step in her career choice. “I’ve learned a lot from faculty, staff, and my peers. I’ve had the opportunity to work on some really interesting projects through my coursework, CPW, and the Community Service Center.” Evelyn also added, “Rhonda Smith, PPPM Internship Director, has been a big help in getting me prepared for interviews.”

While Evelyn is excited about moving back to her hometown of Daly City, California and believes that working in San Francisco will be a lot of fun, she admits she has grown to like Eugene. “I’ll miss it here.  I plan on doing more hiking in the Bay Area but I know it won’t be as cool as hiking around here.”
